Joining the Yukon Charlie's team has been such a great adventure for our family. This winter we have gotten more snow than the past couple years combined so it was the perfect year for us to venture into the world of snowshoeing. Yukon Charlie's were awesome enough to send us snowshoes for each of us. I have to admit when they came for my 1 year old I was hesitant that they would fit or that she would be able to walk in them. Man was I wrong! Not only did they fit but it was so fun watching her run around trying to keep up with her big sisters!
But of course, when you are that young your little legs get tired and you need the awesome seat dad provides. We decided to size up in weight for our shoes so that it would accommodate carrying a child in a carrier and my ever growing pregnant body. I can see the benefit of the added surface area and have not had any issues with the increased sized. Close to our house there is a trail that is perfect for little kids and even better as a first time snowshoe outing. The trail is nice and flat and only .5 miles out to a river where it opens up to wonderful views. Of course in the winter it is totally frozen over and covered in snow which makes it a wonderful place to run around free! The snow out on this river was pretty deep due to a heavy snow fall from the previous couple days but I was very impressed at how well not only the girls did but how well the snowshoes kept up with them. We only had one case of our 3 year old losing a shoe but thanks to the amazingly quick and easy straps it was a breeze to get her back in her shoe and on her way. Whether you are new to snowshoeing or have been doing it for years I am confident that Yukon Charlie's will have the perfect pair for you (and your littles)!

Well we have lived here for 5 winters now and I have to admit this is our first year to have real sleds. We have always used those cheep Walmart sleds or other random things we find around the house to sled with, but this year was different. We had real, fast, durable, insanely fun sleds to play with. Our of the 6 we now own I think our favorites are the Descender, Sno-Nut and the tried and true Foam sled like this Emoji one. Something that is perfect with the Descender and the Sno-nut is the fact that it comes with a tow rope so David and I can pull the girls back up the hill, or just across the snow with it. As you can see this method is a huge hit!! Baby girl really surprised me with this sled. She was all about throwing it on the snow, running after it and jumping on. It was so much fun watching her really enjoy winter and this activity that we can all do as a family. I think the kids actually like this foam sled just about as much as the other ones because it is small and light enough that they can do it themselves. Our 3 year old learned how to hold it, run then belly flop on it to shoot down the hill. Isn't it funny how as a parent when our kids learn even the smallest of new skills it is such a huge deal to us. I was so excited watching the three of them thrive on the hill! The whole time we were sledding Baby girl was convinced that the Sno-Nut was strictly her's it was pretty hard to get her to share with the rest of us. Although I have to admit it was pretty darn perfect for a little one because she could just sit in the middle of the ring and soar down the hill. I wasn't as nervous about her hitting something because she was totally surrounded by a pad. {well, I guess that and the fact that there wasn't anything but snow banks to crash into} Our first sledding trip of the season we went on a hill that was lined by trees, we didn't think anything of it then all the sudden our oldest crashed into one and bit through her tongue. Honestly I am not sure her tongue will ever fully heal and it kind of scared her off of sledding for a while. When we first got to this back road she told me that she didn't want to sled so I let her stay in the car and listen to music while she watched us sled. Much to my surprised and joy she decided that she was ready to give it another go and came out with it. I haven't heard her laugh so much wile sledding ever, she was absolutely loving it!! I think it was the perfect mix of a hill that wasn't too steep, the snow was packed so it was easy to walk up and it was nice and wide so she wasn't scared to hit anything. By the end of the evening when we had to pack it in due to limited light she was so sad to be leaving. I definitely call that a win and I am so grateful for all the fun that these sleds have already brought our family!! |
